The Theology of God

The Theology of God The word ‘theo’ means “god” in Greek and the suffix ‘logy’ means “the study of”. Thus, theology literally means the study of god. For Christians, it is the attempt to know God as He reveals Himself in the Bible in a structured and systematic manner. It is the discovery of who God is as He reveals Himself through His names, His attributes and His dealings with mankind in the bible history. To put it simply, it is faith-seeking understanding. Studying God’s nature and character gives us a greater understanding of who God is, what kind of being He is, what He is like, and affirms our faith as to why we can trust Him. There are many who believe in God, but sadly, few can fully trust and obey Him. One of the key reasons is that we have not known God enough. The Infinite God However, we should understand that we can never know all there is to know about God. We are finite beings, and thus limited in knowledge. God is an infinite being, He is unlimited in knowled

Omniscience of God

Devotion 2 – Omniscience of God Omniscient means having infinite awareness, understanding and insight, complete, perfect and unlimited knowledge of all things. God does not need to learn anything new; He is the source of acknowledge, understanding and wisdom. His knowledge is simultaneous, not sequential. He knows all at once, the information is not given to Him in pieces. He already has it, from the beginning. He knows everything about everything. He knows everything that could happen or is going to happen under any kind of circumstances. He sees the end from the beginning; thus, He can have a perfect plan with predestined goals with flawless precision. He is the scribe writer, producer, and director of the world history. Isa.46:9-10 - Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come . I say, ‘ My purpose will stand, and I will

The Omnipresence of God

Devotion 3 - The Omnipresence of God The character of God and His attributes are fully present in His creation at every point and at every place.   God is capable of being everywhere at the same time. It means his divine presence encompasses the whole of the universe. This is a key attribute of God. God is in all places simultaneously. There is no place where God's Spirit is not present.   Psa.139:7-12 – “ Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence ?   If I ascend into heaven, You  are  there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You  are there.   If I take the wings of the morning, a nd  dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light  are  both alike  to You.”   God is spirit, not “a” spi

Omnipotence of God

Devotion 4 - Omnipotence of God   As with the attributes of omniscience and omnipresence, God is also omnipotent. God is not only all-knowing and all-seeing, but He is also infinite, sovereign and all-powerful. He always has power over all things, in every place, and in all ways throughout all time and all creation.   Job 42:2 – “ I know that You can do everything, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.”   The purposes of God cannot be frustrated. If this was possible, that would mean that there is a power greater than God. When this truth is truly impressed upon our hearts, we will be empowered to face all of life’s circumstances and the chaos and uncertainty of the future. It will help us to stand and be unshakable above all that threatens to defeat and destroy us. No matter how vulnerable or ill-equipped we feel, no matter what challenges and problems we face, we can rest in the peace of God, knowing He is matchless in power, unconquerable, and always vic

Does God Regret?

Devotion 5- Does God Regret?   Since the Bible indicates that God knows all things (omniscient) and had an exhaustive knowledge of the future, why are there times when it seems like God does not know what is going to happen and even seems to regret certain outcomes? Gen.6:5-7 - “ Then the  Lord  saw that the wickedness of man  was  great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart  was  only evil continually. And the  Lord  was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.    So, the  Lord  said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”   1 Sam.15:11 – “ I greatly regret that I have set up Saul  as  king, for he has turned back from following Me, and has not performed My commandments.” And it grieved Samuel, and he cried out to the  Lord  all night.”   1 Sam.15:35 - “ And Samuel went no more to see Sa

Eternal God

Devotion 6 - Eternal God   The word ‘ eternal’  means everlasting, having no beginning and no end. In reference to God, therefore, to be eternal also means He is uncreated. He had no beginning, has always been, and will continue forever. The Bible clearly indicates that at the beginning of recorded time, God was already in existence.   Gen.1:1- “ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”   Ps.90:2 – “ Before the mountains were born,   before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God.”   He was in the beginning of everything - of time, of space, of heaven, of earth, of the entire created order. He is also forever, without limit from eternal ages to eternal ages.   When Moses was commissioned by God to go to the Israelites with a message from Him, he was wondering what he would tell them if they asked what God’s name was. God's reply was most revealing.   Ex.3:13-14 – “ Then Moses said to God, “Indeed,  when

What is Abundant Life

What is Abundant Life?   Jn.10:10 - "A thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and have it in abundance."   Commonly, people equate the abundant life with the ‘Good Life’. This usually means living a luxurious lifestyle, owning a lavish home, driving a fanciful car, taking nice vacations, eating in plush restaurants, etc, etc. While many may have achieved the “good life”, sadly, most of us missed the abundant life that Jesus promised to all who follow Him. S ome people are also deluded into thinking that a busy life equates to a significant, meaningful, and purposeful life. Thus, they always keep themselves busy, living intense and multitasking lives. This lie has trapped many to live their lives on a conveyor belt and in the rat race, yet without clarity on what they are pursuing, resulting only in fatigue of the soul, stress and poor health. The truth is that life is not found in pleasure, performance, possession,
